Art as a tool to create new experiences, connect with other communities and collaborate in the construction of new, diverse and inclusive spaces.
HOW SUR COLLECTIVE WAS BORN?
"Latin American Fem Power!"
This was our first invitation to what would become Sur Collective.
Juliana invited 5 artists living in Auckland, Catherine, Jesu , Julia, Lina and Romina ) to create collectively.
We designed different gatherings that help us to get to know each other, get closer to the different artistic practices of each one and give an idea of how we work from experiential education and community art.
From the beginning, we recognized the power of our voice and how it has an even stronger and deeper echo when we work collectively, so we began to create this journey together.
OUR VALUES
Our compass rose is made up of essential elements that lead our actions.
These cardinal points are our values and our guide so we don't get lost along the way. It positions us looking South.
OUR MISSION
In 2021, we founded Sur-Collective out of a need to create a sense of place and redefine the space we use as migrant women and artists in Aotearoa, New Zealand.
As six Latina artists, we work with different disciplines such as sculpture, drawing, painting, ceramics, photography, printing and embroidery.
